Drywall Repair

Drywall Repair & Patching in Ontario

A drywall repair is only successful if you cannot find it afterwards. Under sidelight from a window, a patch that was feathered too tightly or sanded unevenly will telegraph straight through the paint, which is why bad patches are so obvious on an otherwise good paint job.

BrightLook Paintings Inc repairs drywall the way it needs to be done for paint: damage cut back to sound board, backing added where the hole has no support, patch fitted, joints taped, then three progressively wider compound coats feathered well past the repair before sanding.

We also handle the causes, not just the symptom. Recurring corner cracks usually mean movement rather than bad taping, and stained ceilings mean a water source that needs to be dealt with before anything is sealed. We flag those at the estimate rather than painting over them.

What's Included

  • Nail pops, dents, dings and screw holes
  • Small to large hole patching with backing and new board
  • Corner bead repair and re-taping of failed joints
  • Settlement and stress crack repair
  • Water-damaged drywall and ceiling replacement
  • Texture and knockdown matching on repaired areas
  • Stain-blocking primer over every repair before finish coats

How We Do It

  1. 01

    Cut back to sound board

Damaged and crumbling material is removed to a clean square edge so the patch has something solid to bear against.

  2. 02

    Back and fit

Backing is added where the opening has no framing behind it, then new board is cut to fit tight.

  3. 03

    Tape and coat

Joints are taped and built up in three progressively wider compound coats, feathered well beyond the repair.

  4. 04

    Sand and match

Sanded flush with dust control, then any existing texture or knockdown pattern is matched across the repair.

  5. 05

    Prime and paint

Every repair is spot-primed before finish coats so the patch does not flash through the paint as a dull area.

What It Costs

Typical drywall repair cost in Ontario

$150 – $800 per repair

Small patches and nail pops sit at the low end. Larger openings, ceiling repairs, texture matching and water-damage replacement move up the range. Drywall repair is normally quoted together with the painting so the whole wall finishes as one.

Drywall Repair — Common Questions

Do you repair drywall as part of a painting job?

+

Yes. Nail holes, small dents and hairline cracks are included in the painting prep as standard. Larger repairs — holes needing new board, ceiling damage or re-taping — are quoted as a separate line so you can see exactly what the repair portion costs.

Can you match my existing wall texture?

+

Yes. We match knockdown, orange peel and stipple textures across the repaired area and feather the transition into the surrounding surface, so the patch does not read as a flat spot in a textured wall.

How long does drywall repair take before you can paint?

+

Compound needs to dry fully between coats, so most repairs take one to two days across three coats before sanding. Rushing that is the most common reason repairs crack or shrink back and become visible weeks later.

Can you fix water-damaged drywall and ceiling stains?

+

Yes, but the leak has to be fixed first. We replace the damaged board, seal any remaining stain with a stain-blocking primer, and match the ceiling texture. Painting over an active water source only hides it until the next time it rains.
